AIMS and OBJECTIVES

  1. It is the aim of the Unicorn Badminton Club to play badminton at both club and league levels in a friendly atmosphere.
  2. The Unicorn Badminton Club believes that it is important to support Badminton at all levels. It therefore has both Junior and Senior sections and is affiliated to the Taunton Badminton Association, the Somerset Badminton Association and the Badminton Association of England.
  3. The Unicorn Badminton Club believes that it is important to assist members in improving their game, it therefore encourages them to attend coaching sessions organised by the Club from time to time.
  4. The Unicorn Badminton Club believes that it is important to develop friendly links with other clubs outside the area. To this end, it is twinned with the C.A.L. Badminton Club in Lisieux, France, with whom we regularly have exchange visits.
  5. The Unicorn Badminton Club believes that it is important that the sporting image of the game is maintained and therefore expects members to play in predominantly white badminton kit and to be courteous to other members and opponents. The rules leaflet is available from the secretary.

USEFUL INFORMATION

  1. Whilst the Club does provide some insurance cover for Senior Members as a part of the Badminton Association of England affiliation fees, members are reminded that they are responsible for their own insurance.
  2. Social events are organised throughout the year for both members and their families. To share in the organisation, each team is expected to organise an event during the year. These events are co-ordinated by the Social Liaison officer.
  3. The selection of players for games on club nights is controlled by a peg board. Members arriving place their peg on the left of the board, below any other pegs present. The person at the top left position selects the four players for the next game from the first seven pegs including their own. These selected pegs may be placed directly on a free court or if none are available, in one of two waiting areas towards the bottom left of the board. There are pegs available for the use of visitors.
  4. Selection of League team players is the duty of the Selection Committee which is elected at each AGM and meets to decide team placings during September. The Selection Guidelines are available from the secretary.
