The Junior Section of the Club meets on the following dates in two sessions from 5pm to 6pm, and 6pm till 7pm
BACK TO SCHOOL - BACK TO BADMINTON!
Well, it's that time of year again, so hope you all had a great summer and are raring to go with your badminton. Unicorn Juniors will be starting back on Friday 11th September at Castle Sports Centre, so don't forget to come!
This season junior fees will be £37 for the season (dates below), but if you have a brother or sister playing as well, then it's £32 for the second child. Fees for older children invited to stay on until 8 pm with the adults will be £47. Student memberships for those invited to join the adults (condition is still that you attend the 6 – 7 pm session too, to help!) will be £80. You have until 31st October to pay your fees, otherwise there will be a surcharge of 10% added to your bill!! Please make your cheques payable to Unicorn Badminton Club and hand your monies to Sylv Sealey, the Treasurer on your return. Keep this letter handy, so that you know our meeting dates for the rest of the season:-
September: 11th, 18th, 25th
October: 2nd, 9th, 16th (no badminton 23rd or 30th October - Half-Term holiday)
November: 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th
December: 4th, 11th (Xmas Tournaments: 6pm class = Dec 4th; 5pm class = Dec 11th)
January: 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th
February: 5th, 12th, 26th (no badminton 19th Feb - Half-Term holiday)
March: 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th (End-of-season Tournaments – 19TH for 5 pms; 26th for 6 pms
April: 23rd
April 30th French Exchange with CAL LISIEUX. We will be going to France this year. Watch out for details nearer the time.
As usual, the last lesson of every month will be games only, to give you all a bit more experience. We will be concentrating on learning the positioning and tactics of Doubles, and learning in particular, to play Mixed Doubles this year. Look forward to seeing you all on 11th September!

The junior section of the Unicorn Badminton Club is for players of 8 to 15 years of age and aims to help the children learn to:-
The children spend some of the time playing games against each other, but most of the time is spent on coaching and practising so that they can improve their standard of play. It is important that the youngsters are willing to learn and prepared to try out new things: they need to be able to watch and listen carefully, and to ask questions. Many of the practices require the children to work together and to help each other, so that co-operation and teamwork is also an important part of what they do.
Some of the coaches work with the Somerset junior squads as well as with Unicorn's juniors, so we are confident that players are learning the game in a way that will enable them to progress on to higher levels if that is what they wish.
The Club promotes and encourages our children to go for County trials and to enter national tournaments, as well as the series of trials that are held locally.
Badminton is an athletic sport, particularly at the higher levels of play. The children are taught how to warm up properly in order to minimise the risk of injury, and they are encouraged to keep reasonably fit.
Please note that parents remain responsible for their children while they attend Unicorn Juniors.
We very much welcome adults who would like to help with the coaching. Whatever your standard of play, or your amount of experience (or inexperience) as a coach, Unicorn Juniors can make use of your talents and perhaps start you off on a very rewarding pastime: please do not be backwards at coming forwards!
